5 Steps Used to Pass Every Nursing Course

During nursing school clinicals, you will learn an important patient care fact: discharge planning begins upon admission. Similarly, just as you would begin the patient’s discharge planning upon the admission process, you should begin preparing for the NCLEX upon admission into nursing school!  As soon as you receive your textbooks and/or syllabus, let the studying begin! Preparation is key to passing nursing school. It is imperative that you begin with the end goal in mind. You should begin by looking at the chapters of your first course, then preview each subsection of the chapters assigned by your professor, making note of the bold words and chapter review and/or questions at the end of the chapter. This information is the facts that you will need to know to answer nursing critical thinking questions on all exams!! Hence, you must know the facts to answer critical thinking questions throughout nursing school.

Have you ever had a course where you had to complete a pre-test or knowledge check prior to taking the course and then the actual test or post-test after taking the course?  Well, you can use this method to help you pass nursing school.  In fact, this method will cause your brain to become intrigued.  Your brain will see a bolded word –which tells it that the information is important – and will make you want to investigate further.

These are the 5 steps you can use to pass every course in nursing school:

Step 1 – Preview.  Preview/skim a chapter quickly (no more than 5 min) underlining only the bold words.

Step 2 – Pre-test method.  Take a practice quiz/exam on the NCLEX RN Mastery App on your chapter’s subject matter as a pre-test or knowledge check.  (Do not stress if you fail…look at the rationales for each answer…this is part of the learning process to help you critically think!)

Step 3 – Read. Go back and read your chapter paying particularly close attention to the bold words as well as the knowledge you gained from the practice quiz/exam (pre-test method from Step 2) in the NCLEX RN Mastery App. Use the Help Me Pass Nursing School templates.

Step 4 – Chapter Questions/Review.  Answer any questions at the end of the chapter of your textbook (if any) or end of the chapter review (if any).

Step 5 – Post-test method. Go back to the NCLEX RN Mastery app and take the practice quiz/exam again and read the rationales.

[Note:  The questions in the app are designed to be hard as they are similar to what you will see on the actual NCLEX, so do not beat yourself up if you don’t ace these practice questions on your first few attempts.  The important thing here is to gain an understanding of “why” you missed the question.  Answering a question incorrectly will help you to know where to focus more of your time when studying for your course exams.  So, always read the rationales that are provided, even if you answer the question correctly.]

The NCLEX RN Mastery app can be used throughout nursing school and is a highly recommended purchase through your mobile app store. Once you purchase the app, you can also use it on a desktop by logging in through the website. The app is extremely user-friendly and convenient. You can use the app while waiting in line to check out at the store, while waiting at the doctor’s or dentist’s office, while waiting for class to begin, etc. Again, preparation is key, so ensure you maximize your time by using this app every chance you get. You can use the NCLEX RN Mastery app every day by focusing on the content that you are learning in each current course and reviewing content from completed courses to help prepare for the NCLEX. In fact, a best practice is to take a short practice quiz just before class to help you better understand the new information that you will be learning in the lecture for that day. This app has helped many nursing students pass the NCLEX in 75 questions because it focuses on pertinent information that you need to know to pass the NCLEX, and it is helpful to pass nursing school exams… it’s a real game-changer!

I hope this blog about the 5 steps used to pass every nursing school course is useful in helping you to pass too!
